Taizé European Meeting in Riga


Recently I was at European Meeting in Riga.

At first I hadn't planned that. I had thought that its Christmas time, so family time. Because of that I booked this journey not long before it started.
We traveled there by coach and it was long drive. It was night time so I slept for majority of that time. When we got there we had no free time. We had to register and wait for the place to sleep. It was very exhausting day. I got place in great family. They are very nice and they took care of me. Also they live at the city centre so I had everything at hand.


Prayers

Prayers were everyday and every time it was very similar. One think I think that isn't great about them is that evening prayer is just after dinner so everyone is sleepy 😴. Imagine being for a long time outside, where is cold ⛄ and then you eat and you have to sit in silence in warm place. It's impossible to pray or listen, you just fall asleep. 💤

This prayers are mainly singing Taizé songs. There is also Bible quote and silence. I'm missing Holy Mass during this prayers but of course it's not possible with so many different christians.




Taizé - sightseeing

Sightseeing 

Riga is very nice city with very interesting architecture. Because of Christmas it was also decorated and this made sightseeing even more interesting. We weren't at museums but outsides of buildings and churches are enough to say that it's city worth seeing. Food there is also great. We ate at restaurants and everything was delicious. I don't know why but everything tasted slightly different that anything I'd ever eaten before I was in Riga. I also went to restaurant with family that took care of me while I was there.

New Year party

New Year party started with Taizé prayer at parish. Then at midnight we went out and welcomed new year. We watched beautiful but long fireworks. After that there was a festival of nations. Each nation showed something of their culture: dance, song etc. I think that it's great to see things like that, to learn something about people from around the world. After that we went to the city centre for dancing 💃🕺 but because we didn't know the city and we hadn't found good enough place so we came back.


Taizé - Friends

Friends

It was also great time with friends, being there with them, talking, eating, drinking coffee, sightseeing. Just doing everything with friends and that is very important.

This summer I decided to create self-driving software during my holiday. The simplest way was to use some car simulator to get data and test my software. I searched for online car simulator games and used the first one that I'd found ( https://www.crazygames.com/game/russian-car-driver-zil-130  ). Then I recorded some training, validation, and test data taking screenshots and labeling them with pressed keys on the keyboard. The next step was the hardest, to design a neural network that would be able to predict how to behave in any situation on road. I had to take into account not only the quality of the predictions but also the simplicity of the network, so that computers could at once run game, and make predictions a few times a second. My first model was only able to return keys to press once per 3 seconds, which is definitely not enough. I’m also interested in this topic and I work on many projects that use neural networks or machine learning. When I’ve first heard about CreateML I knew it will change things, and we will see more intelligent apps. It is so simple to have great results with this tool that I’m surprised that it’s not in more apps today. Then I thought about testing it. It’s great with simple tasks and it’s really easy to use, but the question is: Will it work with more complex tasks? To test it I need more complex tasks, so I need data that is harder to analyze. I’ve decided to work on photos of streets (I’m recording street while driving). Then there are steps that I will take: Train model to recognize maximum speed signs with CreateML Train model to recognize maximum speed
